Ilaria Torre
Dr. Ilaria Torre is an Assistant Professor of Interaction Design at Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden.
Her research explores how humans and robots communicate—both verbally and non‑verbally—including the design of gender‑ambiguous voices and other cues to improve trust and inclusivity.
Dr. Torre holds a PhD from University of Plymouth (UK), and has held post‑doctoral positions at Trinity College Dublin and KTH Royal Institute of Technology before joining Chalmers in 2023.
Her recent work includes investigation of how robot voice design affects trust, how humans perceive robotic cues in shared space, and how to avoid reinforcing stereotypes in robot design. By combining linguistics, cognitive science and interaction design, Dr. Torre brings a fresh, interdisciplinary perspective to human‑robot interaction and inclusive technology.
