Rita Chowdhury
Prof. Rita Chowdhury is an award-winning Assamese poet and writer, currently serving as the editor of Gariyoshi, a literary magazine published by the Assam Tribune group. A former Associate Professor of Political Science at Cotton University, Guwahati, and former Director of the National Book Trust, she is an important voice in contemporary Assamese literature. She has authored 17 novels, 4 collections of poems, and one memoir, delving into diverse themes such as historical events, cultural identity, and the complexities of human relationships.
Her works include The Neverland and Zero Hour, a novel on the historic Bangladesh Liberation War. Among her most celebrated works is the critically acclaimed Makam, published in English as Chinatown Days. Her novel Deo Langkhui / The Divine Sword won the Sahitya Akademi Award in 2008. She is also the recipient of the Assam Valley Literary Award, among other honours.
