Santa Khurai is a gender rights activist, scholar, writer, artist, and Secretary of the All Manipur Nupi Maanbi Association (AMANA). She collaborates with various national and international organizations, including the United Nations, to protect and promote LGBTIQ+ human rights. She is a poet and the author of The Yellow Sparrow. Some of her published works include Pheida-Gender at Periphery, The Forbidden Prophecies, and The Dwindling Identity. Her poems, such as “My Father” and “Nupi Maanbi Thabal,” appear in The World Belongs to Us (HarperCollins), and “Looming” is included in South Asia Queer Assemblage (Routledge). Her book The Yellow Sparrow has been shortlisted for Asia’s largest Rainbow Award and the Ramnath Goenka Sahitya Samman Award 2024. Hell O Heterosexual is her upcoming book, co-authored with her partner John.
