Her Excellency Smt. Droupadi Murmu

Smt. Droupadi Murmu is the 15th President of India, a distinguished stateswoman, former Governor of Jharkhand, and former legislator from Odisha. She made history as the first tribal President of India, the youngest person to hold the office, and the first President born after Independence. She has devoted her public life to empowering marginalised communities, promoting education, and strengthening democratic values.

Born on 20 June 1958 in Uparbeda village, Mayurbhanj district, Odisha, she belongs to the Santhal tribal community. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Ramadevi Women's College, Bhubaneswar. Before entering politics, she worked as a Junior Assistant in the Odisha Government and later served as a teacher. Her political career began in 1997 as a councillor in Rairangpur, after which she served twice as a Member of the Odisha Legislative Assembly, holding ministerial portfolios in the state government. From 2015 to 2021, she was the 9th Governor of Jharkhand and the state's first woman Governor. She was sworn in as President of India on 25 July 2022. Her journey from a remote tribal village to the nation's highest constitutional office is widely regarded as a remarkable example of perseverance and public service.
