Sh. Abraham Verghese

Shri Abraham Verghese is an American physician, author, and professor of medicine, internationally recognised for combining medicine with literature in deeply moving stories about compassion, healing, family, and the human experience. Born to Indian parents in Ethiopia, he later became a leading physician and writer in the United States. He was awarded the National Humanities Medal in 2024 for advancing the understanding of medicine through storytelling and promoting compassionate healthcare, and his novels and memoirs have earned international acclaim and been translated into many languages.
