Sh. Amitav Ghosh

Shri Amitav Ghosh is an Indian author and essayist, and one of the most acclaimed contemporary writers in English. He is renowned for historical fiction and non-fiction exploring colonialism, migration, identity, climate change, and the interconnected histories of Asia, Africa, and Europe.

Born on 11 July 1956 in Kolkata, he spent his childhood in India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka owing to his father's career. He studied at St. Stephen's College, University of Delhi, earned a master's degree from the Delhi School of Economics, and completed a D.Phil. in Social Anthropology at the University of Oxford. He gained international recognition with novels including The Shadow Lines, The Glass Palace, Sea of Poppies, and Gun Island, while his non-fiction, notably The Great Derangement, has made him a leading voice on climate change and its cultural impact.
