Sh. Amitava Kumar

Shri Amitava Kumar is an Indian-born author, essayist, journalist, and professor, widely known for insightful writing on identity, migration, politics, freedom of expression, and contemporary society. His work blends memoir, reportage, fiction, and literary criticism.

Born in 1963 in Ara, Bihar, he studied at the University of Delhi before earning a PhD in English from the University of Minnesota. He later joined Vassar College, where he became a professor of English. His acclaimed books include Passport Photos, A Foreigner Carrying in the Crook of His Arm a Tiny Bomb, Immigrant, Montana, and A Time Outside This Time.
