Prof. Anand Singh

Prof. Anand Singh teaches in the Department of History at Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow. He was previously Professor and Head of the Department of Historical Studies and Archaeology at the Central University of South Bihar, Gaya, and served as Professor and later Dean of the School of Historical Studies at Nalanda International University. He has also held faculty positions at Lucknow University and Gautam Buddha University, Noida.

Alongside a distinguished teaching career, Prof. Singh has an extensive research background. His principal areas of study include Buddhist narrative literature, Buddhism with special reference to the Ganga Valley, Buddhist environmentalism, archaeological landscape, and the sacred geography of Buddhism. He has completed numerous research projects supported by organisations including the ICHR, New Delhi, the UGC, and SAARC Colombo, Sri Lanka. He has published more than 45 research articles in reputed journals and has seven books to his credit, including Planet, Plants and Animals: Ecological Paradigms in Buddhism (Primus Books, 2019), Water, Environmental and Corporeal Traditions in Buddhism (Routledge, 2025), and Nalanda: A Glorious Past (Primus Books, 2024). He has also edited a number of books and contributed several book chapters.
