Shri Anil Kumble is an Indian former cricketer, captain, coach, and commentator, and one of the greatest spin bowlers in the history of the game. Renowned for his accuracy, resilience, and match-winning performances, he remains India's highest wicket-taker in Test cricket.
Born on 17 October 1970 in Bengaluru, he earned a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from Rashtreeya Vidyalaya College of Engineering before pursuing cricket professionally. He made his international debut in 1990 and enjoyed an illustrious eighteen-year career, playing 132 Test matches and claiming 619 Test wickets, alongside 271 One Day Internationals and 337 ODI wickets. In 1999 he became only the second bowler in Test history to take all ten wickets in an innings, with figures of 10 for 74 against Pakistan. He captained India, later served as Head Coach of the national team from 2016 to 2017, chaired the ICC Cricket Committee, and remains an influential voice in world cricket.
