Prof. Anil Sooklal

Prof. Anil Sooklal is South Africa's High Commissioner to India, Bangladesh and Nepal. He previously served as Ambassador to the European Union, Belgium and Luxembourg, and has been South Africa's G20 Sherpa, BRICS Sherpa, IBSA Sherpa, and Focal Point of the Indian Ocean Rim Association. He also served as Deputy Director General for Asia and the Middle East in the Department of International Relations and Cooperation. He holds doctorates in Oriental Studies and in Religious Studies, and lectured at the University of South Africa and the University of KwaZulu-Natal before joining the South African foreign service.
