Sh. Javed Akhtar

Shri Javed Akhtar is an Indian poet, lyricist, screenwriter, author, and public intellectual. One of India's most celebrated literary and cinematic figures, he is renowned for his Urdu poetry, memorable film lyrics, and influential screenplays, and his work has shaped Indian cinema and literature for over five decades.

Born on 17 January 1945 in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, he comes from a family of renowned poets and writers. He began his career in the Hindi film industry as a screenwriter, forming the legendary Salim–Javed partnership with Salim Khan, with whom he wrote iconic films including Sholay, Deewaar, Don, and Zanjeer. He later became one of India's most acclaimed lyricists, writing songs for films including 1942: A Love Story, Dil Chahta Hai, Kal Ho Naa Ho, and Lakshya, and has published several collections of Urdu poetry and prose.
