Ms. Mahua Maji

Ms. Mahua Maji is an Indian novelist, sociologist, politician, and social activist, widely recognised for her contributions to Hindi literature, particularly novels exploring history, tribal communities, women's issues, and social justice. Since 2022 she has served as a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha, representing Jharkhand.
Born on 10 December 1964 in Ranchi, she earned M.A. and PhD degrees in Sociology from Ranchi University and completed a Film Appreciation Course at the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune. Her debut novel, Main Borishailla (2006), set against the Bangladesh Liberation War, gained international recognition and was later included in the curriculum at Sapienza University of Rome. Her second acclaimed novel, Marang Goda Neelkanth Hua (2012), examines the impact of uranium mining on tribal communities. She served as Chairperson of the Jharkhand State Commission for Women from 2013 to 2016 before her election to the Rajya Sabha.
