Shri Prasoon Joshi is an Indian poet, lyricist, screenwriter, author, advertising professional, and communication strategist. One of India's most celebrated creative figures, he is known for his poetry, memorable film songs, and impactful advertising campaigns, and his work has significantly influenced Indian cinema, literature, and media.
Born on 16 September 1971 in Almora, Uttarakhand, he developed a passion for writing at an early age. He pursued an MBA at IMT Ghaziabad and built a successful career in advertising, becoming CEO of McCann Worldgroup India and Chairman of McCann Asia Pacific. Alongside advertising he entered the Hindi film industry as a lyricist and screenwriter, writing acclaimed songs and scripts for films including Rang De Basanti, Taare Zameen Par, Fanaa, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, and Neerja. He has served as Chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification and, in 2026, was appointed Chairman of Prasar Bharati.
