Prof. Rita Chowdhury

Prof. Rita Chowdhury is an award-winning Assamese poet and writer, currently editor of Gariyoshi, a literary magazine published by the Assam Tribune group. A former Associate Professor of Political Science at Cotton University, Guwahati, and former Director of the National Book Trust, she is an important voice in contemporary Assamese literature.

She has written seventeen novels, four collections of poems, and a memoir, exploring themes ranging from historical events to cultural identity and the complexities of human relationships. Her works include The Neverland and Zero Hour, a novel set against the Bangladesh Liberation War. Among her most celebrated works is the critically acclaimed Makam, published in English as Chinatown Days. Her novel Deo Langkhui (The Divine Sword) won the Sahitya Akademi Award in 2008, and she is also a recipient of the Assam Valley Literary Award, among other honours.
