Shri Salman Rushdie is a British-Indian novelist and essayist, widely recognised as one of the most influential contemporary writers in English. His work blends history, mythology, fantasy, and magical realism to explore identity, migration, freedom of expression, religion, and politics. His honours include the Booker Prize (1981) for Midnight's Children, the Booker of Bookers (1993), and the Best of the Booker (2008). He was knighted in 2007 for services to literature.
