Ms. Santa Khurai

Ms. Santa Khurai is a gender rights activist, scholar, writer, artist, and Secretary of the All Manipur Nupi Maanbi Association. She collaborates with national and international organisations, including the United Nations, to protect and promote LGBTIQ+ human rights.

A poet and the author of The Yellow Sparrow, her published work also includes Pheida: Gender at Periphery, The Forbidden Prophecies, and The Dwindling Identity. Her poems "My Father" and "Nupi Maanbi Thabal" appear in The World Belongs to Us (HarperCollins), and "Looming" is included in South Asia Queer Assemblage (Routledge). The Yellow Sparrow has been shortlisted for Asia's largest Rainbow Award and the Ramnath Goenka Sahitya Samman Award 2024. Her forthcoming book, Hell O Heterosexual, is co-authored with her partner John.
