Mountaineer, First NE Indian Woman to Summit Everest
Ms. Tine Mena is an Indian mountaineer and adventure sports pioneer from Arunachal Pradesh, best known as the first woman from North-East India to summit Mount Everest, which she achieved on 9 May 2011. Her journey from a remote Himalayan village to the world's highest peak has made her an inspiration to aspiring climbers across India.
Born on 17 September 1986 in Echali village, Upper Dibang Valley, she grew up surrounded by rugged mountains. At a young age she worked as a porter for the Indian Army, developing the strength and determination that later fuelled her passion for mountaineering. With the support of sponsors and intensive training, she embarked on her Everest expedition and reached the summit in May 2011. She has since continued to promote adventure sports and to encourage young people, especially women, to pursue their ambitions fearlessly.
